Ashanti Shequoiya Doug, also called Ashanti was born on 13 October, 1980 at Glen Cove New York. Tina Douglas her mother is a dance instructor from the past. Ken-Kaide Thomas Douglas her father is a singer from the past. The oldest of the three is the Kenashia Shia Douglas who is older sister. Douglas chose the name Ashanti Shia Douglas to honor the Ashanti Empire from Ghana, where women were influential and powerful. Douglas wanted Ashantis to follow this example. The Declaration, Ashanti's fourth studio album was released June 3, 2008. On the 16th of October Hey Baby (After the Club) was released on stations and digital platforms. She was in the film Christmas in the City and as Latasha Montclair on Army Wives. The song she sang Rock wit U was sampled by British singer Aitch for his song Baby on the 10th of March 2022.
